Our Learning Standards

We assess all new students in order to best support their learning journey! Before orientation, students are assessed in French and English Language Arts, mathematics, and science. At Rosemont Bilingual International, we believe in the saying, "Bloom where you are planted." -Saint Francis de Sales. We are excited to work with students exactly where they are in their academic growth.

Orientation for students going into grades 1-9 is an opportunity for parents and students to get a feel for Rosemont Bilingual International - get acquainted with staff, our values, curriculum, policies, and school calendar. 
 
Transitions of several half days are available for preschoolers and kindergarteners, as discussed and decided together by the parent and management team, to ensure a smooth adjustment for your young one.

Our furnishings and learning equipment are made from environmentally-sustainable materials and are designed to create a beautiful environment where students can learn and have fun! 

Our team is constantly learning about the latest research and tools in education and adapting to meet education standards. We use what we learn to make our classrooms more engaging, our teachers more equipped, and our students more fulfilled.

Most furnishings and equipment are movable and used throughout the learning environment. We train our teachers to set up new and interesting learning areas each day with different play provocations to inspire students to learn and engage throughout the classroom space. 

Open-ended learning materials are a huge component of our classrooms and are incorporated in all learning areas. The free-flow style of the classroom environment inspires curiosity and love of learning in our students and teachers.

To create a sense of belonging, students take responsibility in the school and classroom. They help with setup, clean up, and light maintenance and participate in all aspects of the school routine. 

This helps students become self-sufficient, practice contributing positively to the world around them, and feel like they're an important part of the school family. Teachers eat with the students at meal times and everyone helps to serve each other and clean up to foster an environment of belonging.

Students are encouraged to help themselves and others as much as possible and engage in social conversations. Parents are always welcome to come in and participate in our school activities to have a glance at their child's day.

Our educators are trained in play based learning. They take careful observations of the students' individual needs and interests. This helps the teachers provide students with the equipment and supplies needed to support and guide their exploration and comprehension.

Teachers review their observations to help them set up their classroom with activities and materials that will support the learning needs of each student and reflect their particular interests in the classroom. 

By setting up a classroom filled with open ended materials and activities, teachers foster and encourage exploration and experimentation.

We provide a number of daily routines in French and English that promote literacy and language development in a fun, exciting, and hands-on way. As students arrive each morning they incorporate reading and writing into the morning classroom routine. Our desire is for students to understand themselves and others, and excel socially and engage confidently in the real world.

These activities are a fun and quick way to ensure that students get daily practice with reading, writing, and comprehension, starting at the appropriate individual level. 

Literacy centres are a key component of our curriculum with fun, hands-on activities as well as weekly writing and reading centres, storytelling baskets, and writing experiences and materials that are integrated into all areas of the learning environment. 

By incorporating writing experiences and opportunities into all aspects of play, students are fully emerged in literacy learning throughout their day.

Our teachers create an inclusive classroom where all cultures, religions, and ethnicities are welcomed and celebrated. 

Parents, grandparents, and family members are always welcome in our classrooms and are encouraged to come in and share crafts, discussions, projects and stories from their own families.

Our books, materials, and equipment are chosen to represent all ethnicities that are included in our classrooms. Our activities focus on learning about the world and helping others. We create many projects that are focused on charity, friendship, and inclusion.

Our sensory program is geared towards preschool students. This area is a great place to get messy and experiment with all kinds of materials. The items that go into our sensory bin are based on the observations teachers make about the students' interests. 

Students are thrilled to be able to explore goop, slime, sand, water, shaving cream, bubbles and other wonderful messy materials. This area is also used to create sensory worlds that are of interest to the students including ponds, treasure hunts, under-the-sea landscapes, dinosaur digs, and farm lands! 

When possible we take many projects outside where we are free to make a great, big, glorious mess to explore the world around us!.

So much learning occurs as preschool and grade 1 students engage in constructing and building a variety of structures. We provide students with tons of open ended building equipment that they can use during their play. 

Equipment includes blocks, Legos, Mega Blocks, Gears, Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, and many connecting sets. All can be combined to create some magnificent building projects. As students work together, they develop social and teamwork skills.

Teachers also provide other materials as requested by students like boxes, boards, stones, sticks, and tubes. We provide everything to promote enjoyable construction play!

We incorporate numeracy activities into all areas of learning to help develop logical thinking skills and an appreciation for real life application. Lessons are carefully planned to be engaging, practical, and hands on. This ensures that students are fully engaged in the learning experience. Lessons cover all areas of mathematics. 

In addition to carefully planned activities, students also have access to a wide variety of open ended math tools and resources to explore learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom.

Mathematics helps develop logical thinking skills, which contribute to collaborative learning opportunities and problem-solving skills. Experiences with mathematics help students develop appreciation for the patterns and relationships that describe multiple aspects of the future possibilities in the world and real-life applications.

We encourage daily exploration, experimentation, and asking questions. We create science areas with changing equipment that are chosen to inspire the interests of the students and encourage them to explore and learn. 

Lessons are based on students' interests and questions. In addition, fun, hands-on experiments are presented each week. These weekly science experiments are a favorite among the students and they are always excited to see what activity is coming next. 

Making volcanoes, learning about germs with a germ explosion, mixing up some sticky slime, or creating a hover craft are among many of our fun activities.

Our technology areas also have a variety of changing equipment as students learn how to use lap top computers, audio systems, gaming devices, and robotic devices. They will have the opportunity to take things apart and really get to the heart of how things work.

We place a huge focus on the arts. Students engage in many visual arts projects and are frequently exposed to a variety of mediums.

Our preschoolers and first graders experiment with the basics of painting, coloring, collage, sculpting, stamping, and drawing. Students beyond grade 1 explore more advanced steps using these mediums. They also have fun experimenting and painting with unique materials to express themselves!

We focus on activities using materials the students feel encouraged to explore and share with their community!

We provide classroom sets of drums, maracas, tambourines, rhythm scarves, parachutes, ribbon wands, balls, and a wide variety of music and movement equipment. Every student has an opportunity to choose an instrument that intrigues them. Our goal is to provide a well-structured environment for students to grow in their relationship with music through fun lessons incorporating singing, percussion, and movement. 

Dance lessons are designed to explore cultures around the world. The hands-on element of our music and dance program makes this curriculum unique!

Our exciting dramatic play centres are a favourite among the students. We ask them what they would like to turn these areas into, and with their help we transform these areas into beauty parlors, restaurants, stores, bee hives, castles, and a variety of other dramatic play areas!

We provide wonderful props that help the students to enter these centres and work with others in all sorts of make believe play. 

Students also have access to beautiful puppet theaters and a variety of multicultural and animal puppets that they may use in their performances. 

For grades 3-9, dramatic play is also a huge component of our literacy program as students work together to act out stories they are working on. Students can be news casters telling news stories they have written or those found online.

With this program students are challenged through various sports and team-building activities. We incorporate healthy eating habits in school and at home, financial literacy, mental health, and self-care into this program to fully encompass the well-being of the student! 

When students are physically active and eating healthy foods in a secure, positive environment, they perform better academically, socially, and in the real world.
